Braincoach
What is the pdp Braincoach?
As we continue to age and our life expectancy continues to increase, we are at a higher risk of cognitive decline. With nearly 8000 individuals in Luxembourg living with dementia, this number is expected to triple by 2050.
Even though research is progressing, there is still no cure for dementia today.
However, did you know that nearly 40% of all dementia cases could be prevented by adopting healthy lifestyle habits?
It has been scientifically proven that specific risk factors can influence the onset of dementia, helping to effectively prevent and/or delay symptoms. To engage a wider population, the pdp Braincoach app is the first and only application in Luxembourg focusing on dementia prevention. We aim to raise awareness about modifiable risk factors which can help you lower your risk.
How does pdp Braincoach work?
The first step is completing a short set of general questions from the Lifestyle for Brain Health (LIBRA) questionnaire to determine which risk factor categories are relevant for you. Next, you will be asked to create an account and to complete the one-time longer version of the LIBRA questionnaire, which is more comprehensive and asks more detailed questions to obtain a more precise overview of your risk factors. Afterwards, you will see your risk factor recommendations.
Every risk factor “theme” contains 15 messages, which are called “nuts”. Each day, you will receive a notification with relevant information about staying cognitively and/or physically healthy by keeping an eye on your different risk factors. These could be short advice, tips or even quizzes and challenges to complete! You can track your progress by earning points for reading our daily tips and even extra points for taking on challenges and answering quiz questions.
Through the app, you will learn more about risk factors and how they are related to brain function. There, we will also share advice and information about the latest research as well as local activities or associations which could support you in making healthier lifestyle decisions for early prevention.
